Timothy Goebel is the 2002 Olympic bronze medalist. He was the first person to land a quadruple salchow jump in competition and the first person to land three quadruple jumps in one program. He landed 76 career quadruple jumps before his retirement in 2006. He is excited to join the Silicon Valley Ice Skating Association.

Polina Edmunds is a two-time U.S. silver medalist, world team member, Olympic skater and Four Continents 2015 Gold medalist. She graduated from Archbishop Mitty High School in San Jose, California, and is currently a student at Santa Clara University. In 2014, Polina was named “San Jose Sports Hall of Fame Female High School Athlete of the Year” by the San Jose Sports Authority. She is an Athlete Ambassador for Right To Play USA and is very active with Kristi Yamaguchi’s Always Dream Foundation.

Lisa Brody has coached figure skating on the Peninsula in Silicon Valley for the past 25 years. She held the position of Skating School Director for three ice rinks including the formerly know Ice Capades Chalet at the Fashion Island San Mateo location. She has coached medalists at the USFS Regional, Sectional, National, and International levels. In addition to coaching figure skating, she has an active and expanding practice as a Sports Psychology Consultant and Life Coach where she combines both traditional Western and Eastern modalities designed to help her clients reach their maximum potential in their chosen pursuits and goals.

Erin Pangilinan is a proud Silicon Valley native born and raised, UC Berkeley alumnus, computational designer and software engineer. Erin is a stealth tech startup founder, early stage tech startup adviser, and internationally acclaimed author. She is lead co-editor and contributor of the O’Reilly Media book anthology: Creating Augmented + Virtual Realities. She is also co-founder of two non-profits in diversity and inclusion, 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations focused on education, professional development and innovation, Filipino Americans in STEAM (Science Tech Engineering Arts + Math (FASTER, President) and ARVR Academy (Board Member). Early in her career, Erin served as official campaign staff for Obama for America and Ro Khanna for Congress (now Congressman serving District 17, her own backyard). Erin enjoys serving as an advisor to SVISA and relearning ice skating. .

Bilal Kheir joined SVISA in its inaugural year after the closure of Belmont Iceland. Bilal is the 2013 Adult U.S. National Pair Champion. He is a professional skating coach in the Bay Area.

Sarah Feldman | Founder & CEO

screen-shot-2016-09-24-at-3-03-08-pmAs a long time figure skater (home ice formerly Belmont Iceland), recent curler, and native to the Bay Area, Sarah hopes to help share the joy and history of ice sports through SVISA’S efforts in Silicon Valley.

In addition to her passion for figure skating, she is an avid technologist, leading data analytics infrastructure and strategy for a variety of firms including IVP, Lyft Level 5, Google, and Tesla Motors. Prior to her time at Tesla, Sarah helped the effort for capital campaigning and construction of the City of Goleta’s Ice in Paradise (501c3) ice rink. She also has worked on a number of domestic commercial real estate projects with Bay Micro Inc. Sarah later pursued her MBA in Finance at the UCSD Rady School of Management.

screen-shot-2016-09-30-at-9-37-42-pmCrystal Smith is a co-founder of the SVISA, co-founder of the Belmont Blades Synchronized Skating Team, founder of the Bay Area Skater’s Flash Mob and an experienced Professional Figure Skating Coach. Crystal has been actively involved in the sport of figure skating for 30 years as a National Competitor (USFS), World Competitor (ISI), Professional Show Skater (Holiday on Ice), Gold Medalist (USFS) and Gold Level Judge (ISI). She sought additional opportunities to challenge herself and develop her knowledge of the sport of figure skating through her work with the United States Olympic Committee’s Sports Medicine Department and U.S. Figure Skating’s Sports Medicine/High Performance Department as well as her degree in Kinesiology BS, Exercise and Movement Science with an emphasis in Neuromuscular Science. She believes that skating teaches skaters skills to help children be successful in school, work and in life.


DSC01030 (1)Sandra Cheung is a mother of a dedicated figure skater, who started skating at Belmont Iceland in 2004. Through skating school, private coaching and the launch of a synchronized skating team (Belmont Blades) at the rink, she has been a parent committed to building up the skating community. Upon the closure of the Belmont Iceland rink, she has worked on efforts to restore ice rinks in the Bay Area, and is a co-founder of the SVISA. She brings her corporate experience of running large strategic programs to the SVISA. 

Sandra has a PhD in Computer Science and her experience spans engineering and operations at various medium/large companies including AT&T, Yahoo!, and Cisco. Most recently, she has launched her own management consulting business.

Merrill Feldman (Treasurer) is a retired C-level executive with 35 years experience with numerous Bay Area companies. As a long time supporter of ice sports and former Belmont resident, he was frustrated by the recent closure of Belmont Iceland and sudden dearth of rinks on the Peninsula. In his retirement, Merrill oversees commercial real estate properties across the United States.

Alice Mansell is a liaison to SVISA from the SF Bay Area Curling Club, Silicon Valley Curling Club, and the Granite Curling Club of California. She is also a U.S. Curling Association Level II Instructor and Level II Official; former competitive figure skater with Sunnyvale’s Silver Edge Club and Belmont’s Crystal Springs Club; and an attorney and real estate broker.
